Using Westlaw and Lexis can sometimes be confusing. Did you know that each database offers a variety of training options to help users learn more about efficient and accurate searches? Or that they also provide research certifications for those users who want to show their competency with the platform? Check out these resources for more. *Note that you will need a Westlaw or Lexis account to access most of these features.*

Westlaw:

Training Materials: Sign in to your Westlaw account and click on the question mark icon on the top right of the page, or go to this link: Product Training - US | Thomson Reuters - Westlaw Precision.

Research Certifications: Go to this link and sign in with your Westlaw account: Certifications | Legal Research & Westlaw | Thomson Reuters Law Schools. Choose the certification you're interested in, then get started!

Lexis

Training Materials: Signin to Lexis, then click on the "Help" link on the top right of the page, or go to this link: Lexis+® │ Support & Training.

Research Certifications: Visit the Lexis+ Prepare to Practice page here: 2025 LexisNexis Prepare to Practice - Are You Practice Ready?, and select the certification you're interested in. Lexis offers general as well as topic-specific certificates.
