General Formbooks

General Formbooks
Sample forms and contracts on a wide variety of subjects.

Group 1:  Transactional form sets in alphabetical arrangement, supported by citations to entries in legal encyclopedias and law review articles.  Drafting assistance is heavy on checklists but light on analysis.

  • American Jurisprudence Legal Forms, 2d ed. 54 vols. KF170.A4 1971, Row 41A.  The set includes additional volumes entitled Federal Tax Guide to Legal Forms. Contains transactional forms. [Westlaw]
  • Nichols Cyclopedia of Legal Forms Annotated, 40 vols. KF170.N5 1936, Row 41A.  Contains slightly more context and discussion.  Tax guidance is included in the chapters rather than in separate volumes but is not as extensive.  [Westlaw]

Group 2: Transactional form sets that are topically arranged.  Both include more thorough analysis and guidance than the sets in Group 1.  Both include discussions of tax implications.

  • Rabkin & Johnson, Current Legal Forms, with Tax Analysis. 34 vols. KF170.R3 1941, Row 41A. Provides greater depth in its analysis of the substantive law. [Lexis]
  • West's Legal Forms, 2d ed. 30 vols. KF1384.A65 W48, Row 48A.  [Westlaw]

Group 3:  This resource is distinct from those above.  It is a multi-volume treatise on the law of contracts with a 5 volume set of illustrative forms.

  • Williston on Contracts: Forms, 4th ed. 5 vols. KF801.W54 1990, Row 45A.
Contains forms selected from American Jurisprudence Legal Forms and Nichols Cyclopedia of Legal Forms.  Each form is supported by at least one cross-reference to the discussion of the law in the larger 35+ volume set of Williston on Contracts.  The set does not contain much practical drafting advice.  [Westlaw]
