Locating Court Dockets & Documents

Free Sites

re:Search Texas: re:SearchTX is a web-based platform that allows registered users access to an online repository of court case information powered by the state’s e-filing database. Access to most case information requires a free account; some older information and advanced features require paid registration. Nevertheless, this is a good source of Texas-specific case information. See this FAQ and Quick Reference Guide for more.

Justia Dockets: this free legal research website includes some federal docket information; however, users should keep in mind that it is not complete and may not be up to date.

Media articles: many online news articles include links to copies of court documents discussed in the article. This can be a good way to find otherwise unavailable copies of newly-filed documents.

Legal news sites: most legal news providers include links to dockets, briefs, and other relevant information in articles about those documents. These documents may or may not be freely available for readers to view, but these sites can at least be a convenient way to locate them.
