by Perren Reilley on 2023-03-27T11:02:00-05:00 | 0 Comments

For a second year, the Dee J. Kelly Law Library is pleased to participate in an internship program sponsored by Cristo Rey College Preparatory Academy of Fort Worth, a local high school. Cristo Rey’s Corporate Work Study Program pairs high school students with corporate partners who provide a professional work environment, training, and guidance for the students.

Meet Sarah and Natalie, who spend their weeks balancing their work in the law library, schoolwork at Cristo Rey, community engagement, faith, and the fun of being teenagers.

Natalie 2023In Natalie’s Words...

"I am fortunate to work at the Dee J. Kelly Law Library. When people ask me what career I want to peruse I would often respond ‘I don’t really know yet.’ With the help of the Corporate Work Study Program, I can now have the experience of a professional job. This experience will help me form a clear understanding of what I want my future to look like."

"Working at the Dee J. Kelly Law Library is my first job ever. This job has given me many experiences that are only available through unique partnerships like the one between Cristo Rey and the Texas A&M School of Law. ... Not many teens can say that they have worked at Texas A&M Law School but I have the honor of saying I do. This job has taught me the virtues of time management, discipline, integrity, responsibility, and professionalism. ..."

From Sarah’s Perspective...

"The Cristo Rey Corporate Work Study Program offered me the opportunity to work at The Dee J. Kelly Law Library this year. I jumped at the chance to return. I previously worked here [last year] but I decided to return because of the amazing community. TAMU Law’s community is engaging. This is the kind of environment I see myself thriving in. I am grateful to be working at the Dee J. Kelly Law Library because I have learned skills that prepare me for my future. I know I am capable and my confidence grows every week. When I embark on my professional career, I know I will be ready to face any challenge. Although I feel well prepared, I am eager to gain more skills in the years to come."

Sarah 2023 "I am gaining a great deal of knowledge from this program and already achieving what many of may peers have not yet. The Corporate Work Study Program allows me to do things along the lines of building my resources and receiving a wide range of career opportunities. For this particular reason, I get an understanding of what career I’d like to pursue and what I wish to study in college."

Sarah and Natalie are valued, productive members of our law library team and we are excited to have them working with us this year!
